Urban exploration
Being born in the middle of an agricultural wasteland, moving to a city was a big culture shock. I wasn’t exactly a stranger to cities like Leeuwarden or Groningen, but living in it has really opened my eyes to an unfamiliar aesthetic.
Graffiti, barbed wire, and untouched buildings has captivated my interest.
If I walk through Leeuwarden it feels like I’m walking through an MTV music video; a time I never really lived in, but it evokes some sort of nostalgia.
I wanted to capture this aesthetic in that nostalgic form. Using a modern camera or phone cleans it up too much; I wanted to make moving pictures that looked like those MTV videos. That’s where my old digital Canon camera comes in. It shoots in 480p, with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and it’s perfect to capture this time period.
In Sempter 2024 I took a trip to Assen to really experiment with filming on this camera; which I've edited into a short movie.
My goal is to shoot a similar movie in Leeuwarden.
