Lego Videos

One of my favorite models

In my spare time, I sometimes build my own Lego models. But what is the fun in it if you can't share it with others?

So, whenever I feel confident enough about my models, I decide to film a video about them. Sometimes it more of a deep dive into the model and sometimes it's more of a building tutorial.

I post these video's on my Floreanart YouTube channel, where I also posted some of my animations.

Bright Bunch

In 2023 we got an assignment from Veilig Verkeer Nerderland. Our job was to look into how people use the headlights of their cars, and find out if they were used properly.

After interviewing our target audience, we discovered that most people can't distinguish dimlicht, stadslicht and DRL (day running light).

This is were the Bright bunch campaign came in; we wanted to teach people about their headlights.

This came together as a video, where we showed the street interviews we did, along with the nescessary information about using headlights.

Bright Bunch was made as a group project. My contribution to it was doing research and acting in the video.

The video is in Dutch.

Back in green

Around 2023, CMD organized a hotweek. In this week all the students from different years and studios where mixed together to work on a project.

This project had a client: Arriva. They wanted us to look at 612 bus line (going from Leeuwarden station to NHL-stenden), and see what we could do to give it a green image.

Me and my group looked at this problem, and we immediately thought: 'We're not scientists, but designers. How can we make this fun?'

So, after a week, we had created a teaser for a concept Netflix series. Inspired by 'Cunk on Earth', we wanted to document in a comedic way how bus 612 would become green.

Our teaser didn't win, but we did get honerable mentions.

My contribution to the project was acting in the teaser, and editing the video.

Urban exploration

Whenever the wheater is good, and I feel like walking, decide to take camera with me and film some urban spots in the city.

Being born in the middle of an agricultural wasteland, moving to a city was a big culture shock. I wasn’t exactly a stranger to cities like Leeuwarden or Groningen, but living in it has really opened my eyes to an unfamiliar aesthetic. Graffiti, barbed wire, and untouched buildings has captivated my interest.

If I walk through Leeuwarden it feels like I’m walking through an MTV music video; a time I never really lived in, but it evokes some sort of nostalgia.

I wanted to capture this aesthetic in that nostalgic form. Using a modern camera or phone cleans it up too much; I wanted to make moving pictures that looked like those MTV videos. That’s where my old digital Canon camera comes in. It shoots in 480p, with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and it’s perfect to capture this time period.

In Sempter 2024 I took a trip to Assen to really experiment with filming on this camera; which I've edited into a short movie.

My goal is to shoot a similar movie of Leeuwarden, but first the weather has to clear up.

Film experiments

(There is no sound in the video)

Around 2023 I was doing some film related tasks for school. But outside that I wanted to test a couple of things as well.

First, I wanted to experiment with compositions. Using After Effects I created transitions between shots as if they were comic panels. The important part with it was that the comic panels made sense within the space of the car, (for instance, the shifter is right to the clutch pedal, so the shots are as well.)

For the second experiment I tried out a green screen and models.

Being a very big fan of the 1960s puppet series: Thunderbirds, I wanted to recreate one of those action shots.

I made a treadmill with lego, placed a model with a string on it, and recorded it. After adding some more elements to it with After Effects, the shot really came together.
