3d Animations in After effects

In 2023 I discovered 2 things:

  • Microsoft had their own 3d model making software (mostly for 3d printing purposes), called Microsoft 3d Builder.
  • And if you downloaded a beta version of  After Effect you could add 3d models to a scene. 

So using these two tools I created 2 short scenes using a ship made in Ms3Dbuilder

 

3d animations in Blender

Much later, I saw a challenge to pick up blender and try to recreate the shot from After Effects; hoping that the tools would translate well between each other.

When I finally had time, I modelded  a new ship/plane in Blencer, and began working on textures, shaders and animation. 

 

Even after I did everything I wanted to achieve, there was still something missing. So, I would later draw speed lines and add waterspray using Krita's animation tool.

 

The process was painstaking and mindnumbing, but I do like the result.
